SIGMA ALPHA NU
Beta Chapter
ABOUT SAN
SAN was originally founded at the University of California, Berkeley in 2005, and recently opened a chapter at the University of Michigan in 2024. The University of Michigan is the Beta Chapter of SAN and follows the core values of professionalism, excellence, and knowledge of the law. We welcome all majors at SAN, and aim to provide experiences applicable to all career paths with a focus on law. Our Alpha Chapter has alumni that have gone on to impressive careers at Bain & Co., Ernst & Young, and Fenwick & West, and have attended law schools such as Harvard, Stanford, and NYU.
We are the newest pre-professional law fraternity on the University of Michigan campus, and this is how we started... Three out of our four founding members had rushed pre-law fraternities with little success, but still wanted the opportunity to explore our passion for the legal field with like-minded peers, so we took initiative and decided to create that opportunity for ourselves. We wanted to franchise from a pre-law fraternity that we felt held our same values, which led us to Sigma Alpha Nu at UC Berkeley. We realized that they had similar beginnings in 2005 when a group of students pioneered and formed their own fraternity. We were inspired by their drive and decided to reach out and inquire about becoming the second ever chapter of SAN. After many meetings, collaboration, and hard work, we established the the Sigma Alpha Nu Beta Chapter to the University of Michigan. We aim to bring a philanthropic, campus-involved, and professionally driven pre-law fraternity to our community, providing an outlet for legal career development and exploration to passionate Michigan pre-law students.
